Posted by Philothea` @ Monday, August 29, 2005 | WARNING:
Extremely long post. Read it at your own risk. The owner will not be responsible for any yawning, eye irritation or what so ever caused. Should you fall asleep before you can complete the reading marathon, that is not of my concern too. Blah.
It's exactly 12am when I started this post.
Anyway, I'm making progress for my InmA1 (sch project to create a website) and I aimed to complete it by Tuesday. Final submission is on Thursday. This time, I have successfully suppressed my procrastination. I hope it would remain that way but it's really hard to determine right now. I may just lose focus the next few days. Looking at my developments, it seems really amazing how I actually changed the design of my index page at least 20 times. That excludes my other sub pages.
Anyhow, I dread doing my InMa1 all along. It's totally different from Tv Pro where my interest lies. Yong made it sound so easy "html is like a sandwich..." etc. Yea, it may be chicken feet to many peeps but I'm a complete idiot when it comes to creating a website especially the technical aspect of it. I have merely made it through the design process. Somehow, I have come to appreciate this subject more as I kept trying. Sometimes, it really drove the hell outta me. I can just sit in front of the computer, stared at it blankly or even start to whine as if it would respond to my emotions. To make matters worse, my dumb computer is constantly at war with me. I would be such a fool if I do not purchase a new laptop by the next semester. I heard that there is gonna be a PC fair this weekend. Yay! At least I have more opportunities to get my hands on a new computer.
Enough of my ranting, I must admit that despite it all, the best part is experiencing God’s presence. How many times have I prayed and pleaded for his wisdom, strength, grace, etc. and He did not fail to meet my needs. I am certain that He is at work within me. I know my limitations, it could not have been possible if not for his blessings. Yesterday’s service sermon was really a hit. Even though I already heard Pastor Ben preached during the first service but I felt as if it was a fresh message driving across at me when I heard it the second time at 2nd service. The life testimonies and stories Pastor Ben shared still linger in my mind. I made a decision to respond to God’s word and let go of my willful ways.
By the way, I was in town this afternoon. I have no idea what marked this special day…there were actually so many performances around. It just seemed more happening than usual.

My main intention was to catch a glimpse of Bassfish’s gig outside Far East Plaza.

Notice this attentive old man amidst the crowd. He has been a fan of Bassfish since the day he was born. (if you believe) He looked so fascinated.

I did not realised beforehand that they were actually performing to raise funds. Even if I had known, I do not even have a single cent to spare into the donation box. I am still very poor these days. Alright, I shall be getting my pay soon. Cheers. Anyway, I was on a hunt for JUICE magazines to add to my collection but there was not a single copy available at FarEastPlaza. Sobz. Eventually, I just got a few pretty nice Zouk cards, etc.
Dropped by Heeren where there was a dance performance. I supposed the performers were students from JitterBugs since people were promoting it. A lady approached us and handed us a brochure "Hey! You guys look like dancers, would you like to have more information on dance." She said that to practically everyone she was reaching out to. That was something new to me. I haf not heard anyone who had made promotions in that manner before. The dumb thing was that she said the similar thing to the person in front of me. It was not surprising when she applied the same approach on us but I was just thinking that she probably needs a better strategy.
Then, we headed to Cineleisure’s foodcourt to grab a bite since Dharni would be performing outside Cine in the evening. We might as well catch another performance. Note how supportive of our classmates we are. Whenever there is any performance, we would probably not cease to be part of the crowd.

How true can this saying be:
'A hungry man is an angry man'

Now satisfied.

Beef noodles! I have not eaten for such a long time! I still did not get a taste of it. That bowl was Ingrid's.

I wonder why does everyone looked as though my camera would vacuum up their food.

Ryce, beatrice and I weren't hungry. That's why we were not angry. If you get it, you get it. If you don't, forget it.

It turned out that 98.7 fm collaborated the beat boxing competition and promoted for the Black Eye Peas. They gave out free tickets before and in the midst of the competition. Alex actually went on stage and participated in the first game where they had to compete to determine who had the longest breath. Unfortunately, he lost but got himself a consolation of a LimpBizkit’s water bottle and shirt. Anyway, it was a good attempt.

What a crowd!
The beatboxing competition in my opinion is no competition at all. I was so disappointed with all the participants’ performance. It was utterly horrible. My judgement was largely due to the fact that we heard the best beat boxer in Singapore, which is none other than Dharni and everyone else seemed nothing near to his standard. It’s just justifiable to say that when you have tasted the best, everything else seem plain. Needless to say, that is why he is credible to be one of the 5 judges of this competition.

We didn’t stay long enough to catch his performance and left during the interval. It was more of a headache to watch the participants who claimed to have practice beat boxing for a year or so and yet, produce such discouraging performances. This event made me appreciate Dharni’s performance a little more. We were kinda sick of it at times especially where he flaunt any new techniques in school.
Okay, back to work now.

Posted by Philothea` @ Tuesday, August 23, 2005 | I wanted to blog about the water baptism ceremony which took place last sunday initially but there were too much details and visuals to it. I'm kinda lazy to upload them here and it wouldn't be interesting or make much sense if I exclude the visuals...so I shall just forget about it now.
Anyway, IMD P2 is finally OVER & OVER for me! wheee! (:
Had my final group presentation this afternoon and I don't really care how it went since we did our utmost.
Stayed back for TV Pro rehearsal till almost 8pm.
Priscilla took some photos of us.

I wished I could have gone home after that but I had to rush down to give tuition. QiaoHan insisted for it since she has 3 tests tomorrow and she was desperately in need of my help. Alright then, I stayed till near 11pm.
Home sweet home.
Right now, I'm waiting for Hans to send the TV Pro proposal so I could compile everything for submission.
Another sleepless night.
Sunday, August 21, 2005 James' birthday
Posted by Philothea` @ Sunday, August 21, 2005 |

hoohoo, it was my not so beloved brother's birthday 2 days ago and he just turned fourteen. lol. He does get on my nerves at times but I still love him afterall. Anyway, we had a mini celebration at my grandma's house.
All of my aunties seem so be so fruitful, each of them had already bore two to three children. That is why I always regard my grandma's house as a child care centre. You've to love kids in order to be there or you can probably go crazy at the sight of the number of kids present. I am only eighteen and I'm the eldest of them all.

My brother is Mr Busy, in the midst of singing the birthday song, he had answered three calls in a row.

A decent cake...

under the operation of my brother...

turned disgusting afterwards

it's evident from the look of my aunt.

but obviously kids would not even mind at all

ziting started learning volin a month ago and we got her to flaunt her new found interest.

my brother attempted to revive his skills which he gave up 7 years ago.

we stayed to watch 'Extreme Makeover' before my uncle drove us home.
That did not mark the end of my day.
Three of my cousins stayed over at my place and it was exhausting for me considerating that they are such active creatures. I had to entertain them, etc. They never seem to get tired that night!

Posted by Philothea` @ Monday, August 15, 2005 | The leaves are beginning to turn from green to red to orange. The birds are beginning to turn and are heading once more toward the south. The animals are beginning to turn to storing their food for the winter.
For leaves, birds and animals, turning comes instinctively.
But for us, turning does not come so easily.
It takes an act of will for us to make a turn.
It means breaking old habits. It means admitting that we have been wrong, and this is never easy.
It means losing face. It means starting all over again.
And this is always painful. It means saying I am sorry.
It means recognizing that we have the ability to change.
These things are terribly hard to do.
But unless we turn,
we will be trapped forever in yesterday's ways.
Lord help me to turn,
from callousness to sensitivity,
from hostility to love,
from pettiness to purpose,
from envy to contentment,
from carelessness to discipline,
from fear to faith.
Turn me around, O Lord,
and bring me back toward you.

Posted by Philothea` @ Thursday, August 11, 2005 | An unfortunate day.
Philo has to go to school early this morning to attend a class which she dreads, awfully.
Morning bus ride made unpleasant by an inconsiderate couple siting right behind of her, speaking loudly as though they were deaf. Old women and children may be excused but not them, not young adults (poly students) as such. She turned back, stared at them slightly to hint at their volume. Instead of making any conscious effort to repent of such disturbing behaviour, they perpetutated with their 'private' and 'soft' conversation. She wouldn't have bothered much any longer, moreover, her overwhelming exhaustion led her to a deep sleep.
In class, she learnt how to use macromedia flash. As elementary as it seemed, she has absolutely no clue to what she was doing, besides trying to keep up with the instructions given.
Finally, she swam out of dark waters when someone darling gave a clear explanation and concise tutorial.
During consultation, her lecturer commented on her improvement. She grew a little encouraged. Yet, it did not last long. Her heart came tumbling down when she realised that one of her important working files was corrupted. This was probably due to the improper ejection of the thumb drive. Oh well, an entire night of hard work had gone down the drain. All she can afford is to redo her work.
Very unfortunate, indeed.
More unfortunate events followed.
She reckoned that it shall ceased to be mentioned.
Lalalala. She was thrilled to catch Charlie and the Chocolate Factory the second time in the cinemas within a week. It was as enjoyable as before especially when XinYi was by her side. Somehow, she likes the way how XinYi would laugh at every single detail - the movie producers would have greatly appreciate that too.
Rushed to catch her last train home, she encountered another weird person who sat right opposite of her. It was not anything extremely terrible. She was just amazed to capture that moment of affection towards squeezing pimples in public. Mind you, that lady was doing so for her friend who sat beside her. The poor guy had his face all red and even more horrifying, making his blemish more obvious then before. She wondered why he did not reject the pimple squeezing service as much as he seemed so unwilling to give in to that lady's weird attempts.

Posted by Philothea` @ Sunday, August 07, 2005 | I'll go nuts if I don't blog today cos I had simply a wonderful experience tonight with *drum rolls* CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY movie!

I caught it at the cinema, 9pm just now and I'm totally overwhelmed by it! wheee! It is faboulous! More than that, it's simply excellent, delicious, awesome, entertaining, fantastic, interesting, amazing, incredible, intelligent, creative and every positive word you can possibility think of would be suitable. I am not exaggerating when I claimed that it's the best movie I've ever seen thus far, these years! Mind you, I'm not paid to advertise here. hehz. Intially, when I first heard that Charlie and the chocolate factory would be made into a film, I was thrilled since I had very much enjoyed the book by Roald Dahl. Can't seem to remember when I first read it, but all I remember is that I LOVE IT.
Though I had been anticipating its lauch at the cinemas since months ago, I didn't think of it more than a re-enactment of the storybook. I was just preparing myself for a good laugh, never tot that I'd be in awe of it. In fact, I didn't even realised it was another Tim Burton's film.
Tim Burton's films are remarkable interesting especially this film. So much so that, if God doesn't exist, I'd have bowed down and worshiped Tim Burton. However, God does exist, believe it or not. I'd be such a fool if I hadn't enknowledged this fact. I'll save you from my preaching right now. heez.
As a student who studys language of film and who desires to major in film making, I highly recommend you to watch Charlie and the chocolate factory! I'd give it 9/10! The cinematography, acting, sound, animations, mise-en-scene and script made a wonderful combination! The best part of it, in the intelligent diction of the entire script. I salute to everyone who worked so hard to make such a successful fim possible. Though not perfect, I think I can spot some mistakes or scenes that triggered doubts, I understand how tough it is to produce such a film. Besides that, this is a great film and a MUST watch! And if you think nothing good of this film, I believe that you're either nuts or you ought to check out the definition of creative. Or at least, check out the ever cool dude, Johnny Depp! (:
Story- The screenplay is closer to Dahl's original book, but it does more - This new version of Charlie and the Chocolate factory plays on a deeper level, as we learn more about Willy Wonka. This movie fills in the gaps of the 70's version and makes many things clear from start to finish. From that, what we get is a deeper story, which is what we all want in a movie. That's what makes this so good. It doesn't end so abruptly like the first movie did. We all know that Charlie wins the chocolate factory but by the end of the movie, the real winner is Willy Wonka himself.
Acting- Perhaps its the charisma and great acting of Johnny Depp that makes it so incredible. He does a great job in every frame with his facial expressions. I also liked the new Charlie Bucket by Freddie Highmore; he brings a special innocence to the screen. Its nice to have Charlie's dad in the movie, as he was in the book. Grandpa Joe is very cheesy esp. when they find the golden ticket, but what do you expect? A lot of the characters are cheesy because we know the story, and know what's going to happen, so the writers and actors just have fun with that. The 4 other children are very similar to the old movie which works perfectly. And I laughed out loud every time the Oompa Loompas started to sing, cause we all know they are going to and the new songs are so cheesy.
Visuals- Charlie and the Chocolate Factory boasts visuals and special effects from scenes in the book that the original movie could not do. The nut room which was in the book, was in this movie. Fudge Mountain was shown, and much more CG images that Dahl envisioned. Even the opening credits are fun to watch. With more visuals, more can be shown and thus explained. Its visuals and story work hand in hand.

The only thing that upsets me, almost everyday is my 2nd youngest brother who thinks he's infallible when he's actually infantile. I know he don't meant to be malicious but he really drove me to the wall on many occasions. Even my mother and my 2 other bros are exasperated.
